Top ten business card tips

I was asked to present and education slot and a BNI meeting this week on a subject very close to my heart ; business cards. Over the years I have built a reputation for designing powerful business cards that capture the clients values, unique selling points and that make them stand out from their competitors, winning them more business.

To key points from my talk are below, if you want to stop competing on price alone, to sell more and want to stand out from your competitors then give me a call on Bedford 01234 834554 or see my website for more Graphic Design Services and Business Branding or to view my online design portfolio

1. Always have your cards designed specifically for your business by a graphic designer. Well designed cards will make you look professional and business like. They will make you stand out from your competitors and stop you competing on price only

2. Never leave home without them. “Do I have my wallet, house keys, driver’s license? Do I have my business cards?” Remember, any interaction can be a doorway to give out a business card.

3. Insert a business card when mailing bill payments. Bills contain advertisements. Why not advertise your skills or services the same way? Insert a business card with your payment and develop this powerful networking attitude.

4. Use proper business card etiquette. Never shove a business card you’re your pocket. Never. When given one demonstrate an interest in the other person. Look at the card, find something there to stir up conversation then place it in your wallet.

5. Be generous. Have you ever requested a second business card so you could refer their services just to hear “I only have a few cards left.” Hoarding your cards serves no good purpose. If you go to a networking event with 25 people attending ensure you take enough cards for 2 each.

6. Ask for referrals. Don’t put people on the spot. Try asking for a referral when giving a business card by saying something savvy like, “If you think of someone would you please refer my services to them?” then give them 2 cards.

7. Maximize all your interactions. Every social event, every outing and every encounter is an opportunity to network so remember to use these meetings to hand someone your card. You never know when you might meet someone who can help you or who knows someone else who could.

8. Have your cards printed professionally. Cheap cards look and feel cheap - is that how you want prospective customer to see you? Always ask for quotes on larger quantities, they are often  only a few pound more.

9. Make sure your card says what you do. Your card is there to re-enforce your sales message, your USP's and your services. Use the back of the card to list your services, remember people keep cards for a long time , they may forget what you do.

10. . Don't use templates from the internet, you don't know who else has the same one. This could lead to someone judging you on what they thought of a completely different business with the same design.

Business card design

A design we did for The Wellness Hub, they wanted to have a business card that would give information on how to sit correctly along with more conventional details.
We designed the infographic specially for the client to fit in with their existing branding. To give the card a quality feel certain parts are spot varnished over the matt laminate.
At Squadra we specialise in producing business card design that stands out and comminicates company values.

QR Codes

QR Codes may be the biggest thing to happen in design for some time, the ability to link from print based literature to web, video or other interactive content makes the whole experience way more exciting. The possibilities are endless, for businesses looking to sell more these codes can really make a difference.

Imagine you are launching a new product : we can produce a brochure with the key sales points and features, add a QR and link to a video on YouTube with someone using or demonstrating the product, or a link to the mini web site. If you are a hotel, what about a brochure that links to your Trip Advisor page? If you run a fleet of vans a QR on the back of each is the quickest way for prospective customers to get your details.

Now imagine how powerful to useful it would be to be able to track how many people click on your QR Codes - Well you can !

To discuss how we can help you deliver more sales by using QR Codes alongside our powerful sales focused graphic design call us on 01234 834554, email ian@squadra.co.uk or scan the QR Code below to visit our website and see our portfolio.
